Brig Niagara

The Brig Niagara is docked next to the Maritime Museum in Erie, Pennsylvania. This actively sailing ship is an accurate reconstruction of Admiral Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship from the War of 1812.

The US Brig Niagara is a Sailing School Vessel and inspected by the US Coast Guard. Sailed by 16 professionals and 20 students, the ship doesn't carry regular passengers, only Sailing School Students.

The US Brig Niagara was used by Admiral Perry to defeat the British in the Battle of Lake Erie on September 10, 1813 near Put-in-Bay, Ohio. "We have met the enemy and they are ours"

Original armament included eighteen 32-pound cannonades and two 12-pound long guns. The main mast is 118 feet tall and the vessel displaces 297 long tons.

The war ship sailed with a crew of 155 officers and men. Admiral Perry fought under the battle flag emblazoned with Captain Lawrence's dying words:

DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP
