July 19 - 20, 2008
Race fans expected to witness an exciting weekend of racing at the
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and weren't disappointed. The event also
featured some unexpected incidents.
Expected:
Audi dominated
the LMP1 class, with a Lucas Luhr - Marco Werner win. Penske Racing's
Timo Bernhard - Romain Dumas won the LMP2 class for the third consecutive year in
the #7 Porsche RS Spyder.
Danica Patrick had a spirited confrontation with another Indy driver, this time
it was Milka Duno,
as the entire 1-minute Pit incident was caught on video.
Unexpected:
The #3 and #4
cars of Corvette Racing bumped together while racing each other out of
the Pits, and each had to serve a major penalty.
Team Penske scored its 7th win at Mid-Ohio with a 1st-2nd
finish by
Ryan
Briscoe - Helio Castroneves. Following heavy rains Sunday morning,
the Honda Indy 200 began on rain tires but finished without any
further weather issues.
Pit
crew member Keith
Jones suffered severe burns to his face, hands and feet during a
refueling incident when the De Ferran Motorsports #66 LMP2 car,
driven by Simon Pagenaud, exited the pits with the refueling hose still attached to
the car. Jones was evacuated by helicopter to the Ohio State
University Medical Center in Columbus. |
