You can always count on the Dog Days of Summer to arrive just
in time for Steelers Training Camp, and this year didn't disappoint.
By the middle of afternoon practice on the second day of camp, the
temperature hovered at 88ºF with a dew point of 70. In other words,
it was hazy, hot and humid.
Steelers fans arrived in force on Monday, but didn't match the huge
crowd of Steelers fans that welcomed the Super Bowl Champs back to
training camp on Sunday. Loud cheers could be heard for many of the
Steelers players as they entered the practice fields, with Big Ben
registering the highest decibel level.
The photos and descriptions below will give you an idea what it's
like to attend a summer training camp practice session with the
Pittsburgh Steelers. The Saint Vincent College surroundings have
changed slightly over the past decades, but the overall experience
remains the same, sitting on a hillside surrounding the practice
fields and watching two hours of football practice.
Suggested items to wear or take along:
Comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, wide-brimmed hat,
a blanket to sit on, snacks, sunscreen, and folding chairs.
Non-alcoholic beverages - no alcohol permitted. If you intend to get
Steeler autographs, you'll need a pen and an item to be autographed.
Autographs are more likely to be granted following practice
sessions.
