About the Owner

Since the owner of a landscaping business determines the creativity and quality of service you'll receive, it's important to consider the individual's training, experience and commitment.
Bob Donnan founded Landscape Services in 1979, while his experience in the nursery industry extends back to 1973.

1973 - Bob started a nursery growing ornamental trees and shrubs.

1975 - Bob began working at a commercial nursery, learning the proper methods for transplanting large trees and shrubs.

1977 - With a desire for more knowledge in horticulture, Bob enrolled in the Ornamental Nursery Industry program at the main campus of Penn State. He graduated "With Distinction" and received the Pennsylvania Nurserymen's Association Scholarship in 1979. Courses of study included landscape design, plant culture, turfgrass management, and tree maintenance, as well as many other classes in horticulture, plant pathology, entomology and agronomy.

1979 - Upon graduation from Penn State, with six years of prior hands-on experience, Bob started a landscaping business in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania originally known as "Landscape Services." The business has been growing steadily ever since, and the company name was expanded to Donnan Landscape Services.

1998 - In order to promote Donnan Landscape Services, as well as share his experience and college education with budding gardeners and landscapers, Bob launched the donnan.com website. Donnan.com now reflects 13 years of dedicated and ongoing work.

2006 - To further expand on two popular areas of the green industry, Bob launched two additional "green" websites; treeboss.net and lawnboss.net.

In the Local Community

As a married father, Bob has been active in the Peters Township community since 1980.

This active participation has involved redesigning plantings on township traffic islands, the donation of trees for community parks, and several winters teaching Landscaping Classes for the adult education program.

As a Son of the American Revolution and a war veteran himself, Bob realizes the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of fellow veterans and their families. By supporting numerous public and private efforts, he has worked long hours to ensure these men and women are not forgotten. Additional web pages have been posted to honor local police and the heroes of Flight 93.

On the environmental front, he has been actively engaged in air and water quality issues. He was instrumental in getting leaf burning banned in his township, and is now working on water quality issues in SW Pennsylvania related to Marcellus Shale gas drilling.
