Once a tree has been removed, the final part of the job is removing
the stump. Some homeowners are tempted to skip this final stage of
tree removal, but in the long run, you'll be much happier if you
take care of stump removal as soon as possible.
If you would like to plant new lawn, or another tree in the same
area, stump removal becomes mandatory. It's important to remove all
of the stump if you plan to plant another tree in the same spot,
especially if the tree is B&B (balled and burlapped) or has a large
root ball.
Once the stump grinding process is complete, we generally recommend
the chips be removed and the hole backfilled with topsoil. Since
many roots will remain in place to decay, you may eventually see a
"fairy ring" if the tree was in a lawn area.
