Upper St. Clair traces its origins to
1762 when the first known settler, John Fife, arrived from Virginia.
The Township of St. Clair was named for
General Arthur St. Clair of
Revolutionary War fame. The Whiskey Insurrection of 1794 had roots
in Upper St. Clair. During the
Civil War, residents formed the St. Clair Guards which later became
Company H of the 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. Upper St.
Clair Township was incorporated in
1836 and covers 9.95 square miles.
